Mahavir Jayanti is a religious day, celebrating the birth of Mahavir.

The day is often marked by organising mass celebration with elephants, horse-carts and camel-carts, and in many Jain Temples throughout India.

Locality often hold a traditional bath for a deity of Lord Mahavira.  Following which the deity is carried in the parade throughout the region.

He is the founder of the modern Jain religion.

It is a gazetted public holiday in India, a moveable day in March or April each year.
